Having a DJ in the room creates a better, more energetic feel to a room than having music play off of a juke box. This is a fact.

So if the DJ can create all this energy, why is it that so many DJs just look at their laptops like they are checking their email?

The best DJs, the ones that have the biggest following and the most loyal tribe are the ones that let loose and pump up the energy like the guy in this video.

Okay he might not look cool because he is a little older and his movements make it look like he’s having a seizure but he’s doing his best at being an entertainer. You should too!

I have learned to scratch a little but I was more into the longer dj mixing and the blending.

But some of my friends are AMAZING at scratching and its awesome to learn!

There are many different tricks that you can try with looping that are commonly overlooked for most new DJs… (If you want to learn more DJing tricks sign up for our DJ tips and tricks newsletter by clicking HERE now)

For example… did you know that you can actually create a build up in the middle of a track without a build up just by looping? Try it… Set your loop in and loop out points on your CDJ or digital djing system for 4 or so bars. The music will be looping over and over and over. The same four bars… All you have to do to create a build up is to turn a little “echo” or “delay” effects up on your mixer and then start to turn the jog wheel on your pioneer CDJ.

The result? The loop starts to get shorter… and shorter until it is almost a static noise similar to what can be heard at the climax of a build up!

Then you just hit the exit button to exit the loop and pick up right from where you left off in the track!

It works for me EVERY time!

ALL new DJs struggle with beatmatching. Some more than others. This makes sense because the human brain isn’t trained to listen to two different sounds and determine their speeds. And the process of mixing takes it one step further because not only do we have to focus on two different songs… we have to be able to tell which one is going faster!

This is much easier to determine if you throw in the songs at the right time and the right speed… hence the importance of the “cue and throw”. It doesn’t matter if you are playing MP3s, Ableton Live, DJ Turntables, DJ CD Players, Traktor Studio or other Dj Software… The Cue and Throw are ESSENTIAL for DJing.

“Cueing Up A Record” means getting the record ready to play right on the first beat… and “throwing in a record” means playing that song at the right time and the right speed.

When you are starting out as a beginner dj learning how to dj take my dj advice and spend the time to master the cue and throw before you move on to beatmaching. It will make learning to beatmatch so much easier!

I know you came here to learn how to dj but you’re probably thinking “who said anything about 10 year old kids?!?”…

The 42 year old guy will say “I’m too old to learn how to DJ”… A lot of new DJs that are girls will say something like “DJing must be tougher for girls”… and a lot of beginner djs claim that DJing is “too technical… the dj equipment is too confusing”. What you’re about to see is a video of a 10 year old that learned to scratch and mix within only a few days. This kid can scratch records like mad!

What I want you to take away from this DJ video is that this kid was able to learn so quickly because he didn’t over analyze anything. He was just having fun DJing and if you take a similar approach then you too will learn how to DJ quickly!

Furthmore, most DJs that are teaching lessons were never that good. They may be technically proficient but most were never professional DJs because if they were, they wouldn’t have to be teaching Dj Lessons for money.
