My best friend was watching this video and he said it made him think of me. After watching the video and feeling insulted (joking) I flashed back to all of the new DJs that I started DJing with. Most ended up like the guy in this video; weird, fat, hermit, tech heads that call themselves DJs but they have never played a real DJ gig.
So what went wrong for all of these new DJs. And how you can you avoid the same fate of become a weird guy that tells everyone he’s a DJ?
Want to learn how to mix songs? You’ve come to the right place!
Know how to mix songs is a lot easier than it looks. I can remember looking up at the DJ booth in a nightclub thinking “wow that looks so cool” and “I wonder if I can learn how to mix songs together?”. 9 years later and I’ve now DJ’d all around the world professionally and played with all of my favorite DJs. It all started from where you are now.
How To Mix Songs
The fact is that DJing and mixing songs together is not as complicated as it looks. All DJs really do when they mix songs together is blend one song after the other. One aspect of DJing that I never really considered until this weekend was that if you learn how to DJ you instantly have a job to pay the bills anywhere in the world. I don’t care if we’re talking Jordan, South Africa, Morocco, Mexico, Hong Kong or New Zealand. If there is a city you can bet that they have parties and nightclubs that need new DJs.
How cool is it that you can do something fun like learning how to dj and be guaranteeing yourself work all around the globe. Its like become an accountant or a doctor without the 8 years of lame school! Sure you make less money but we are all aware of the other benefits of DJing that people like accountants wish they had (girls, lifestyle, VIP celebrity DJ treatment etc).
In fact the DJing scene in a lot of other countries is BETTER than in places like North America and even the UK. Why? Read the rest of this entry »
A lot of new DJs ask me how they can make their own beats. Thats called being a music producer and its a lot different from being a DJ. Both require completely different skillsets and personal strengths yet both are crucial for your success as a professional DJ.
