Numark Mixtrack Specs
Before we get too deep into the ins and outs of the Numark Mixtrack let’s take a brief look at what this unit has to offer.
Numark Mixtrack DJ Controller features:
- Mac & PC compliant USB
- USB powered
- Lighted control shows status in software
- Touch sensitive platters
- Dual-deck layout with mixer section
- Supports MP3, WAV, FLAC, AIFF as well as CDs.
Numark Mixtrack Software
The Numark Mixtrack software works with both Mac and PC so no drivers are necessary to get this unit up and running. Fully MIDI compliant the Mixtrack is complete with Traktor LE (light edition) software that’s based on Traktor Pro software.
Instead of spending endless hours learning difficult to understand software, Numark Mixtrack DJ software is an easy to learn software that’s perfect for mixing & remixing and even producing your own music. This software is so easy to use that within an hour of setup you’ll be mixing your own beats. With several layout options, including cover art you can make your own discs for interested partygoers.
The Traktor LE software gives you multiple effects for each deck that includes reverb, delay, flanger and filter. Plus you get flexible loop integration that includes manual looping as well as selectable loop length for full power. With so many options available to you, your DJ skills will improve in no time.
If you already use Traktor software then you’ll be ready to go as soon as you open the box because Numark Mixtrack is compatible with Traktor Pro and Traktor Duo. If that isn’t enough you won’t have to trade your music software because MIDI compliant means you can use it with just about any music software.
Numark Mixtrack Hardware
Those of you just learning the art of DJing will find the Numark Mixtrack hardware very appealing. Although it has a plastic chassis rather than metal like some of the higher end DJ controllers the Mixtrack is surprisingly sturdy and heavier than it looks for durability. This unit isn’t mean to be a pro kit, but it will help learn what you need to know about mixing and producing.
Although the faders are short throw, making fine tuning difficult, they are still smooth and the crossfader is loose like it should be. If you’re used to long throw faders you might need some time to adjust, but that time will be minimal. If you’re looking for a unit with plenty of additional features the Numark Mixtrack doesn’t have them but it does have effects and kills that you might not find with other DJ controllers.
Probably one of the most important aspects of the Numark Mixtrack that all DJs look for is touch sensitivity. Because you will do plenty of spinning and touching of buttons, knobs and wheels you’ll need one that moves when you want it to and stays put when you need it to. You won’t be disappointed by the wheels on the Mixtrack because they perform magnificently, especially spinbacks and manipulation.
What You’ll Need
The one glaring omission from the Numark Mixtrack DJ controller is that it doesn’t come with a built in sound card, which is what reads the music file and turns it into music. This is where it might get confusing for those of you new to mixing and producing music. Yes your computer does make sound but as a DJ it’s important that you cue up the next song while a song is already playing. For that you will need an additional sound output; one for the headphones so you can hear what’s next and one for the speakers so partygoers can hear the current song.

All this means is that in addition to the cost of the Numark Mixtrack DJ controller software, you will also have to purchase a sound card. This shouldn’t run you more than $100 but with a little bit of research you can probably find one for less.
You’ll need headphones if you don’t already have a pair—comfortable headphones are essential as they’ll be attached to you for a long time. Speakers are also essential so you can listen to the output. Computer speakers work well as do hi-fi, but as long as you have a pair of speakers you will be fine.
That’s all you’ll need in addition to your Numark Mixtrack DJ controller to get you started digital DJing.
Who Needs A Numark Mixtrack
If you’re a professional DJ then the Numark Mixtrack won’t fit your DJ needs, however there are a wide variety of DJs who will find this unit beneficial.
New DJs: You will find this helpful if you haven’t committed to DJing yet but what to know if you can do it before spending thousands of dollars on a higher end unit.
Party DJs: If you like to mix even at smaller get togethers and you don’t want to take your big expensive unit with you, the Numark Mixtrack is perfect for the DJ on the go. Whether space is the issue or convenience this is an inexpensive way to get the party going in any space.
Older DJs: If you’re not sure that you want to make the switch to digital the Numark Mixtrack DJ controller is a perfect, and relatively cheap, way to see how you’ll do.
Numark Mixtrack Review – VERDICT
The Numark Mixtrack is a pretty good deal for around $130. You get all the features a budding DJ needs to flex his or her muscles. Although you will have to put in some extra money for headphones, speakers and a sound card, it is still a small price to pay compared to DJ controllers and mixers with more bells and whistles.
You’ll learn a lot about how to DJ and you won’t spend a lot of money doing it. Consider this Numark Mixtrack review as you begin your search for a DJ controller.
