A friend who works with Steve Angello just let me know that Steve just threw up a video reflecting back on the year that was.
This year was HUGE for Steve and the Sweedish House Mafia. He remixed “Show Me Love”, had a legendary residency at Pacha Ibiza this summer called the Dark Forrest and who could forget the fist fight he got into with Paris Hilton.
Dj Ben from Taiwan emailed me the other day letting me know that he had been inspired by all of the great information that LearnToDjFast.com has given to new DJs. In the spirit of helping out the cause, DJ Ben wrote an “DJing For Dummies” style article on getting DJ gigs and he wanted me to share it with you.
The first step to DJ idol greatness is to get gigs!
Once you have taken dj lessons and can now dj mix it is now time to go out and get gigs. It is only through such gigs that you can showcase your talents and let all your hard work come to fruition. Think about it, music lovers on their feet, dancing away to your beats. Damn, that really sounds awe inspiring. The question now is how does a new DJ like yourself get DJ gigs?
There are so many different ways to get your DJ gigs. The important thing here is to TRUST your abilities and not be afraid to contact people in the inner circle…
Lets be honest, nobody likes to see a DJ with his head stuck in a laptop up in the DJ booth. He might as well be checking his email or writing up his grocery list for after the gig!
You have to give programs like Ableton Live and Traktor DJ Studio credit. They are kickass pieces of DJ software that can do some pretty incredible stuff. Even just the ability to get the Dj Software to beatmatch for you opens up so many doors for your DJing. But the obvious downside was that all of this computer based software did not do well with the performance aspect of DJing…. until now.
Over the past few days I have seem some really cool pieces of software that really get the DJ involved. Take the video above for example.
A dj from Uruguay, Gustavo Bravetti, does an awesome job of demonstrating how creative you can get. He shows how you can use ableton live and Nintendo Wii controllers for your DJing. Read the rest of this entry »
We all do things for different reasons. You, I and everyone else has different needs and these different needs dictate how we live our life on a day to day basis.
Deep right? Not really.. its simple. Some people need freedom. Others need security. Some people feel the need to be loved stronger than others. I feel the need to help people by giving them dj training.
We all want to learn to DJ or got into DJing to fulfill different needs. I will be the first to admit that I got into DJing in the first place because I was lonely in highschool and wanted to be able to make friends and date girls. I loved the idea of playing in front of a big crowd because I needed the attention back then.
But here is the bottom line… regardless of what need drove you djing (girls, party rockstar life, freedom, money etc) you need to know that you will never be successful as a DJ unless you truly LOVE this music. It always comes back to loving the music.
