So you’re interested in DJ Training? Great call!

So many new DJs struggle to learn how to DJ because they don’t invest in DJ training. The results are night and day. Without dj training it can take years to learn how to dj and get a gig. With DJ training you can be mixing in as little as a few weeks and get your first gigs in month. Pretty exciting isn’t it!

So then why do so many DJs on message forums hate on dj training like dj lessons, dvds or online video dj training courses? Its simple! Who is doing the majority of the posting on those message forums? Is it experienced professional club DJs that took DJ training themselves and have been training new DJs since? Haha no.

The guys hating on DJ training courses and telling you not to invest in them because teaching yourself is the only way to DJ, are nothing more than losers that never made it. They didn’t invest in dj training so they advise that you shouldn’t either. These guys never played any big gigs. Heck, most of them have never DJd anywhere outside of their bedroom.

So moving forward, be wary about whos giving you advice and why, especially when it comes to DJ training.
Now a very common question I get asked about DJ training is:

DJ Training – Whats Best?

And I have to be honest here. I don’t sell 1 on 1 DJ lessons. But they are the best type of dj training for getting started with DJing because you have that fun 1 on 1 interaction. The only problem with in person dj lessons – and it’s a big problem – is that they are super expensive! You’ll be looking at paying $50 per hour and even up to $100 per hour for a good dj coaching that will share decent dj training.

And I don’t know about you but I didn’t have $1000+ to spend on DJ training. That’s right you’ll need 10 lessons at $100. That’s $1000 on dj training.

Whats even better is to invest in some online dj training – some online streaming videos or some dj dvds that you can order to your door. These will cost less than $100 and will provide you the same level of dj training, if not better.

On top of this, you can watch your dj training videos over and over again to learn key skills that you may be stuck with learning. With online dj training videos its almost as if you have your own personal dj coach right there teaching you over your shoulder.

Another question I get asked is…

Are Youtube Videos Good For DJ Training?

No. Straight up no. If you think you can get full dj training from videos that are a minuet or two long, you’re kidding yourself. Now I understand that there are a few good tips here and there on Youtube, but they’re just teasers.

DJ training experts put out teaser clips on Youtube to lure you back to their site and sell you their online DJ lessons. You can’t learn much from these teaser dj training videos.

Now I understand if you don’t have any money. Youtube could seem like the best options since you may feel like you don’t have may options. But the reality is that spending $75 on dj training videos will save you hours and hours spent sifting through the crap dj training tips on youtube and will save you months of frustration while learning how to mix.

And you can make this $75 or $100 back with your first Dj gig so there’s no reason to hesitate!

My recommendation is that if you don’t have the money for proper dj training, that you beg, borrow or steal to get it because dj training will make learning to dj a lot more quick, easy and fun!

DJ Training

Last night I treated some friends and took them to the grand opening of a brand new club here in our city. Despite there being a MASSIVE line up outside of the nighclub, we all rolled right past the line.

After the grand opening we headed to another nightclub where Superstar DJ Joachim Garraud from France was Djing. Again, getting my crew past the massive line wasn’t an issue.

I thought it was going to be a solid night out at the nightclub where I would groove while watching the DJ and talk with djs in training with aspiring DJs at the club. I didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary.

I ended up getting BLOWN away by the DJ show that Joachim put on. The guy busted out this piano guitar (a DJ keyboard that was hung around his neck like a guitar) and started jamming out on it while he was mixing!

The crowd went nuts. Its so simple but its creative, fun and it takes DJing and DJ training to a whole other level.

While you’re learning to DJ, make sure that you get creative and take dj lessons on new instruments like a keyboard guitar!

It doesn’t matter weather you’re using DJ Gear like CDJs (dj cd players), vinyl turntables, dj software like ableton live, a digital and analog setup like traktor or serato. There are always opportunities to mix it up and learn to dj with different instruments.

To give you some idea of the possibilities for new DJs like you…..I’ve seen:

-DJs that play bongo drums.
-DJs that show up wearing ridiculous costumes
-DJs that rock the cowbell
-Djs that will bring their full production setup and create new tunes while they dj
